Long Time Tokoroa Motorcycle Shop Owner
At the recent Motorcycling New Zealand Inc Annual General Meeting in Wellington, Tokoroa’s Robin Atkins was awarded a Life Membership.
68 year-old Atkins has been active both as a racer and an organiser, as well as serving for many years as a MNZ steward in his region.
Atkins was a founder member and is now a Life Member of the South Waikato Motorcycle Club, who many would call the “Home” of Supercross in New Zealand.
During his racing career Atkins raced many different machines, winning the 1972 New Zealand Sidecar Championship, until his accident on a Yamaha TZ350 during the Marlboro Series at Timaru on New Years day 1977.
Robyn has two sons Greg (former NZ Senior Motocross Champion) who today works as Track Manager for Youthstream building tracks for the World Motocross Championships.
Second son Daryl (former NZ Junior and Senior Motocross and Supercross Champion) currently races Super Motards in the USA. He was last seen competing at the Cemetery Circuit (Wanganui) in 2008, where he still holds the outright Super Motard lap record.
“It was fantastic to receive the life membership the other weekend and I am looking forward to many more years involved in motorcycling,” said Atkins from his Tokoroa base,
